New Indian Rupee Currency SymbolA post graduate from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) designed a new symbol for Indian rupee which is approved by Union Cabinet. Now Indian rupee will have a Distinct Identity.

D Uday Kumar the designer of symbol will be awarded by 2.5 lakh rupees. Almost 3000 designer participated in currency symbol competition.

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni told that government will try to adopt symbol within six months in the country and globally within 18 to 24 months.

The new symbol is a mix of Devanagri ‘Ra’ and Roman ‘R’. Ambika Soni, Information and Broadcasting Minister said after a cabinet meeting to the reporters that the symbol will be printed on Indian currency notes and coins.

Solution 1


1. Download the Rupee font (.ttf file) and install in your computer fonts folder (typically C:\Windows\Fonts). Just paste in it the C:\Windows\Fonts Folder - it will ask for automatic install, click Ok.
2. Select "Rupee" font from the drop down list of your fonts in your application
3. The grave acent symbol – ` (the key just above “tab” button in your keyboard) is used to type the new Rupee symbol.

Download the Rupee Font Installer
1. Extract the files. (You will need winrar or 7zip installed in your PC to extract 2. the files)
3. Double click on the Rupee_Font_Installer.exe
4. Click on "Install" button
5. Done.
6. Open Microsoft Word, and select the rupee Foradian font in the dropdown menu.
7. Click the ` key (above the Tab key) and the Rupee symbol will be printed.
